Overview:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual with a passion for hydrogeology / hydrology to join our growing team based in Wolverhampton on a permanent basis. The position offers the chance to gain valuable experience within a fast passed consultancy environment, whilst developing practical and theoretical skills in hydrogeology / hydrology and enjoying a diverse, varied workload.

The role will suit a technically minded, innovative and practical individual with good time management skills and a talent for problem solving, who is happy working outdoors as well as from a desk.

The position will require regular travel throughout the UK and ROI. A full current driving license is an absolute requirement for the role.

About Us:
Established in 2000, BCL are a specialist independent consultancy providing hydrogeological, hydrological and geological services, principally to clients within the aggregates industry, on a range of issues including planning, permitting / licensing and operational matters.

Based within Wolverhampton Science Park, our offices benefit from modern and well-equipped facilities with on-site catering and secure free parking. The offices are in easy reach of the motorway network and mainline rail links allowing easy commuting where required. BCL staff typically adopt hybrid working arrangements splitting their time between remote working, the office and the field.

Assistant Hydrogeologist:

About the Role:

Working as an Assistant Hydrogeologist within a small, dynamic and flexible team, the successful candidate will undertake all aspects of hydrogeological and hydrological assessment, this including though not being limited to:

  • Environmental Impact Assessment
  • Hydrogeological Risk Assessment
  • Flood Risk Assessment
  • Hydrometric monitoring and testing
  • Water management schemes
  • Abstraction licensing / Environmental Permitting
  • Waterwell prognosis / installation
  • Contaminated land assessment

Further responsibilities will include participation within large scale projects undertaken across the company requiring both field and desk works such as large-scale field trials (eg: pump testing).

About You:
The successful candidate for the role of Assistant Hydrogeologist will preferably hold an undergraduate degree in Geology, Environmental Science or a related discipline, and will hold an MSc in Hydrogeology or Groundwater Engineering.

Proficiency in MS Word and Excel is essential. Knowledge of specialist software packages (Groundwater Vistas, Modflow, Surfer and CAD) would be an advantage, as would experience in GIS, the use of data logging equipment / software and working within a strict health and safety environment.

Field Technician:

About the Role:

Working as a Field Technician within a small, dynamic and flexible team, the successful candidate will undertake all aspects of hydrometric data collection, the management and processing of environmental data sets and the internal / external reporting of the data collected.

Further responsibilities will include supporting company hydrogeological and hydrological assessment projects, this requiring both field and desk works such as drilling supervision, water features surveying and providing input to technical reports.

About You:

The successful candidate will preferably hold an undergraduate degree in Geology, Environmental Science or a related discipline, will be proficient in word processing and spreadsheet packages, and will be comfortable working outdoors.

Experience in GIS, field data collection, the use of data logging equipment / software and working within a strict health and safety environment is preferred though not essential.

A competitive salary is offered, this being dependent on experience, qualifications and non-salaried benefits, of which a company vehicle will form a negotiable element of the Assistant Hydrogeologist role. A company pick up will be provided for the Field Technician role. Both roles offer significant potential for progressive career development within BCL.
